Safari Holidays in South Africa: Kruger Park

The South African peninsula has mild weather during the entire year, with the bonus of being nicely placed - turning it into a wonderful holiday away from the harsh European and American wintertimes.

In this short article, we’re going to focus on the not so well known regions of South Africa, so you can bypass the hords of tourists and at the same time enjoy the lower costs that you find in the lesser known places.

Kruger National Park
A lot of people recognise Kruger National Park from arguably the most notable amateur footage of wildlife. It’s the largest wildlife park in South Africa and continues 350 km from south to north and 60 km from east to west. Kruger National Park has 8 main gates that provide entrance to the different campsites . There is plenty of accommodation near Kruger Park so it doesn’t need to be a lengthy return journey from Cape Town or wherever you’re staying.

Check out the Drakensberg Mountains
The Drakensberg is the highest mountain range in South African, extending to 3,482 meters (11,420 ft) in height. Old caves are predominant in the more easily weathered sandstone, and numerous have rock paintings drawn by the indigenous bushmen. The Drakensberg Mountain Range has roughly 40000 works of cave paintings and is the biggest assemblage of such paintings on the planet. There is some proof that the bushman civilization existed in the Drakensberg Mountains as long ago as 100,000 years ago. The Drakensberg Mountain Range is easily accessible from closeby Durban and you can book accommodation in Durban very easily.

Visit KwaZulu Natal
The KawZulu Natal area has been progressively popular with holidaymakers - chiefly advertised as the Zulu Kingdom. It is a shame that many holidaymakers miss this experience, as many who DO come here know that it provides tourists a number of things to do. For a long time it has taken the moniker as the Garden Province - and a well deserved name it is too. There should be no trouble locating accommodation near KwaZulu.

Nepalese man, 76, oldest person to scale Chomolungma

They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side. The Chinese were flying their airplanes over the mountain and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. His first found him within 179 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. One year later, Andrew Brash, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to the Mount Everest to finish what he had started.

This season French alpinist Anthony Loeff is reporting the scales for Everest after reaching the top of earlier this year.

Min Bahadur Sherchan and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism. Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. Bahadur Sherchan returned a hero to Calgarians. As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on Mount Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. More than 3190 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.

Now that Min Bahadur Sherchan has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. He was reported in good health as he began making his descent. The 75-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of Mt Everest. Bahadur Sherchan last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”

“Chomolungma this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.

With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Min Bahadur Sherchan noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. Sherchan just 18 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.

They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”

Further, he was all too aware of the potential dangers the mountain could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused Nevertheless, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Andrew Brash with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. “The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on the mountain. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though the mountain is shared by two countries. Andrew Brash returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Chomolungma or Mount Everest.
