Gastric bypass is the most frequently undertaken operation for weight loss in the United States with about 140,000 surgeries being carried out every year. With a history dating back over 50 years, hundreds of surgeons have grown up with gastric bypass surgery and have developed a very good understanding of its benefits and risks.
Gastric bypass surgery is the final option when other types of dieting and weight loss have been unsuccessful and where you are considerably overweight. This normally means that you have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 40, or greater than 35 with an accompanying condition which increases the risk of disability or premature death. Such conditions would include heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea, hypertension and liver disease amongst others. In its simplest form, this equates to being some 100 pounds more than your ideal weight.

Near 11 percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision. Further, using a screen reader is, according to some users, considerably more difficult than using a GUI and many applications have specific problems resulting from the nature of the application. A screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen. The primary audience for such applications is those who have difficulty reading because of learning disabilities or language barriers. There are also open source screen readers, such as the Linux Screen Reader for GNOME and NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows.
Increasingly, screen readers are being bundled with operating system distributions. While Apple Mac OS X includes VoiceOver, a more feature-rich screen reader. A persons choice of screen reader is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers.
Screen readers can be assumed to be able to access all display content that is not intrinsically inaccessible.

There are many books and internet articles written about weight control. However, if you already know the stuff you should be doing, you might want to skip past the next section of this article. For those of you who are starting at the beginning, here’s some useful information:
Energy is measured in units called calories or kilojoules. If you want to lose weight, then the total calories that your body absorbs through eating and drinking must be less than the calories that your body expends throughout the day. And of course, if you wish to gain weight, the opposite is true.
You can also help your weight control along by participating in regular daily exercise, because this helps your body burn more calories. It does this not only during the exercise session, but also for hours later, by raising your body’s metabolic rate. When you exercise, you produce feel good chemicals in the brain which are called endorphins, and these often help to stop you from reaching for those high calorie snacks such as cakes, donuts and chocolate. Also, exercise changes the fat and muscle ratio in your body. Muscle burns more calories than fat, so make sure you enlist all the help you can get by exercising!
So if we have all this information at our fingertips, then why do so many people have such difficulty reaching their ideal weight? Well, I must tell you that a lot of it has to do with your subconscious belief systems. Do you know all the basics, but still find yourself unable to stick to a healthy eating and exercise regimen? You’re definitely not alone.
At this point, I would like to say that if you want to lose weight, then I strongly suggest that you reframe the notion of “losing weight”. So instead of saying you want to lose weight, I would like you to think of your goal in terms of “gaining control of your weight”, or, as the title of my article suggests, “reaching your ideal weight”.
The reason for this, is because your subconscious mind can be a fickle beast…and when you “lose” something, what do you automatically (and subconsciously want to do?
You want to find it again!
So it’s really important to focus your mind towards what you want, instead of what you want to lose, and this is because your subconscious mind works best with positive language. And speaking of which, how is YOUR body image? Do you continuously criticize yourself , or berate yourself for indulging in that triple choc milkshake? If so, STOP right now. If you want to reach and maintain your desired weight goals then you need to make permanent but manageable lifestyle changes, while at the same time allowing yourself the odd indulgence…without feeling guilty!
So, be realistic and work at a steady pace towards reaching and maintaining a body shape that is achievable for you. If you’ve always had a pear shaped body, then you will not be able to slim down to a straight-up-and down shape, even if you starve yourself! Don’t fall into the trap of unhealthy eating habits; depriving your body of essential nutrients is every bit as damaging as overeating.
Begin by working WITH your natural body shape, not against it. Send your subconscious mind the message that you love and respect your body. One of the ways you can help yourself along is by using daily affirmations. Start today; write down any negative beliefs you have about your body, and then replace these negative statements with positive ones. Remember:

Losing weight can be a frustrating and sometimes depressing endeavor. This is probably why most people don’t follow through with a diet plan. However, for those with the will and determination to lose weight, the rewards are tremendous. A successful dieter will not only look good, but feel good too, and will have learned the value of maintaining a healthy body.
When dieting, you might feel you always feel tempted to eat the wrong kinds of foods or overeat. The answer is not to restrain every urge of hunger; that will only end in failure. Instead, learn how to eat in moderation… and not with diet pills (you can shed those pounds through safe, natural means, without harming your vital organs).
Here are some helpful tips to healthy, natural weight loss:
• Eat small meals and eat frequently
Three meals a day may be what you’re used to eating - but that is not the way to lose those extra pounds. Every time you eat, your metabolism starts working, burning those calories and instantly breaking down food for energy and nutritional contents.
With a meager three meals a day, your metabolism has plenty of time to slow down and this is not good if you want to lose weight. You want your metabolism to stay on the job.
If you eat five to six small meals a day, you can burn more fats. Likewise, you also tend to feel less hungry as a result and are less likely to overeat. Protein bars are great to snack on, but make sure they are low in carbohydrates and high in protein (read the nutrition label).
• Drink enough water
Our bodies are seventy percent water and they’re supposed to be that way! In order to maintain this balance, it’s important to drink plenty of liquids. Water helps flush out body toxins and waste and also helps your body to properly utilize all the nutrients from you food. This is essential for dieting.
Moreover, water makes your body elastic and thus minimizes stretch marks that normally occur after weight loss. As well, the cushions for your joints (which are usually weakened when you lose body fat) are also strengthened if you drink lots of water. Not to mention, water enhances your complexion!
• Don’t eat before bedtime
A midnight snack or meal before bedtime is something to avoid when trying to lose weight. Because your metabolism slows down when you sleep, any foods you eat up to three hours before you hit the sack are not metabolized well. They will be stored as fat because they are not burned effectively. If eating before bedtime is unavoidable, at least try to eat light.
• Cardiovascular exercises
Cardiovascular exercises play an important role in weight loss. The best diet regimen in the world may not get you to your ideal weight if you don’t also exercise regularly.
If you do cardiovascular exercise at least four times a week, for at least twenty minutes each session, then it will help your weight loss immensely. You may want to increase the time and intensity after you have adjusted to your workout.
The ideal time to exercise is the in the morning before you eat. This way, your glycogen stores are low and later your body will burn carbohydrates and fats more effectively.
• High Protein Diet
A high protein calorie diet is excellent for retaining muscle and maintaining a fast-acting metabolism. The body tends to burn carbohydrates first, because they are its main energy source.
Once it runs out of carbohydrates to burn, it will then burn fats for body fuel. So if you do not have enough protein in your diet, your body will eventually make use of your hard-earned muscle for fuel.
• Lower your carbs
It is important to limit your carbohydrate intake so that your body can burn most of its contained fats. As mentioned before, the body usually burns carbohydrates first before it moves onto burning fats, so simply put, the less carbohydrates burned, the more fat burned.
Carbohydrates, combined with protein, are best to take in the morning, so as to give your body a jump-start. This will give you ample energy for the rest of the day.
• Multivitamins are good for you
While dieting and exercising, it’s also a good idea to take multivitamins. They will help you remain healthy and strong as they provide essential vitamins and minerals to the body. Because certain necessary food groups are often overlooked, these multivitamins can compensate for certain deficiencies. Just be careful when you choose a multivitamin - you want to take what you are lacking in, not what you already have or don’t need.

This title to a book by Rudolph Ballentine deserves more thought than we might give it. The book deserves more thought than I will give it too. It might be of interest to note that Dr. Ballentine is a Duke graduate and likely was affected by the people I speak about in the so-called paranormal sciences. Why is it ‘radical’ to integrate and think or become an informed consumer in the field of medicine or health care? Here is part of the dustcover commentary.

Sounds like common sense and makes one wonder how we ever got so enmeshed in ‘expert’ ego-driven medical care doesn’t it? I highly recommend Ivan Illich’s Limits to Medicine wherein he more fully describes the over-professionalization and iatrogenesis (doctor-inflicted death) that is inherent in Western medicine today. The British Medical Journal Lancet termed that book from 1976 ‘a grapeshot across their bow’.
“Tennis was known as ‘the game of kings.’ As the royal player, you are faced with constant decisions and make repeated moves within the context of your ‘court.’ When I was learning and exploring tennis, I worked with a friend who held a Ph. D. in linguistics. Ricardo Melo analyzed body language in terms of what he called the ’syntax of the court.’ The net represents the ‘other’ to whom you must respond. The space surrounding you is divided into front and back. That part behind you corresponds to your unconscious; you reach back into it for the depth of feeling that impels you forward. Players who make short stabs at the ball, without a deep backstroke, fail to dip into this well of inspiration. The space before you is your conscious mind and world.
I played tennis once with a young meditation teacher from India. Sincere and guileless, he stood squarely facing the net. He could not remember to put his left shoulder forward so that his right arm could reach deeply into the backcourt. That would have allowed him to extend the racquet back into the realm of the unconscious, where his personal power was hidden, and bring some of that out to propel the ball forward.
There’s also a right/left division of the court. The right side is dealt with logically and linearly, while the left, where the backhand takes place for most people, is a reflection of your intuition. When you reach into the space on the left with your backhand stroke, you are showing how you use your intuitive faculties. The very hard-nosed, super-rational businessman will often have a lot of trouble with his backhand. Unusually artistic and intuitive types may find it easier, and may instead have a weak forehand. In contrast to these ground strokes, which demonstrate your ability to respond, the serve is about initiating an action or interchange with another person…
I learned lots more from tennis, too. My reluctance to bend my knees told me I was too aloof. I didn’t get down to other people’s level. On the basis of this insight, I took the flower essence Water Violet, which is for aloofness and condescension, and gradually my stiff knees softened. I started listening more to the viewpoints of those who were doing the practical work, and my effectiveness as a leader improved. What is the best form of physical activity?
The best form of physical activity is what you will actually do often. That is it. What you will actually do. And the good news is, it can be something different every day. You can walk one day, run another, go swimming another, play Frisbee golf another, go golfing the next, rollerblade the next day, ride your bike another day, etc. You do not have to do the same thing every day. But you can if you want to.
Some hints on what your inner knowing might say around physical activity: One day 30 minutes might be perfect for you, and the next day only 10 minutes is good. Other days an hour or two might be ideal. One day a slow relaxing pace might be ideal, the next a heavy vigorous workout might be called for. There are no rules about how and when you should or shouldn’t do physical activity. My only guideline would be: Do what you want to do, and listen to your inner knowing when doing it. The lawyers would want me to tell you to consult a physician before starting any exercise program here. My thought is, your inner knowing knows better than any doctor does about what is best for you. If you listen to your inner knowing and act on what it says, who cares about the doctor?
Listen to your inner knowing about how long and how intensely to work out. Don’t be so concerned with getting 30 minutes in at X heart rate three times a week. Don’t be concerned with lifting X pounds X times. Focus more on where you are at right now when you are doing physical activity, and do what is best for you right now.
Walking outside is great. You can take deep full breaths of fresh air when you are walking, go within and focus on the God Presence within you. You will also get sunlight from being outside. You can do four of the seven things in one activity. Walking, (how easy is that?) is Great. Pilates is Great. Yoga is Great. Rollerblading is great. There are many forms of physical activity that are wonderful.
Bottom line, just do some form of sustained physical activity.
There is a bonus coming about the importance of mental activity.
Take it easy and don’t exercise so hard.
