Nepalese man, 76, oldest person to scale Chomolungma

They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side. The Chinese were flying their airplanes over the mountain and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. His first found him within 179 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. One year later, Andrew Brash, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to the Mount Everest to finish what he had started.

This season French alpinist Anthony Loeff is reporting the scales for Everest after reaching the top of earlier this year.

Min Bahadur Sherchan and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism. Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. Bahadur Sherchan returned a hero to Calgarians. As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on Mount Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. More than 3190 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.

Now that Min Bahadur Sherchan has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. He was reported in good health as he began making his descent. The 75-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of Mt Everest. Bahadur Sherchan last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”

“Chomolungma this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.

With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Min Bahadur Sherchan noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. Sherchan just 18 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.

They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”

Further, he was all too aware of the potential dangers the mountain could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused Nevertheless, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Andrew Brash with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. “The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on the mountain. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though the mountain is shared by two countries. Andrew Brash returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Chomolungma or Mount Everest.

    Why Choose First Class Travel?

Today, when airlines offer more economy seating and more cut-rate fares, some customers and industry watchers predict the end of first class travel.
After all, many of the most luxurious methods of travel in the past - including the once-famous MGM jet and the Concorde - are no longer offering service. It’s too early to mourn the end of first class travel, though. At a time when it seems that low-cost air travel and trips are de rigeur, some companies are working harder than ever to provide high-quality first class travel experiences. Many more business, executive, and even pleasure-seeking travelers are choosing to travel first class.

There are many reasons why customers choose first class travel arrangements. Many note that the exceptional service and small extras - such as blankets and better food - ensure a pleasant trip experience. On a longer trip, these small extras allow passengers to arrive in good spirits and in a relaxed mood, ready to begin their day’s business or their vacation without undue hassle or fatigue.

Many business passengers find that first class travel arrangements help them make the most of their trips and help to project a professional image. For many passengers traveling for pleasure, first class travel is a pleasant luxury that adds to the quality of a trip.

If you have always avoided first class travel because of the cost, it is time to look at your high-end travel options again. Airlines, boats, and trains are all offering better-class travel experiences at almost all price levels. There are upgraded travel packages that offer some of the perks of first class travel at a fraction of the price, for example. Look around and talk to your travel agent - you might be surprised at how much sense first class travel arrangements make.

    Beyond theme parks in Spain

Zoos, safaris, museums, nature trails… Spain has a wide array
of leisure and entertainment options for children that goes
beyond the big theme parks that have sprung up over the last few
years. In the last decade, more and more theme parks have been
    built in Spain, with Terra
Mtica in Benidorm, Port Aventura in Tarragona, Isla Magica in Seville, Warner Bros Park in Madrid to name but just
a few. At the same time however, a wide range of leisure
activities has also come about, that focus more on contact with
the environment and science than tall, twisting roller coasters.
Of the many centers connected to nature in Spain, the most
classic are the zoos, which allow children to see animals
without leaving the city. The Zoo Aquarium in
Madrid, one of the most important in the world, contains a
dolphin tank, aquarium, a large aviary and a zoo with more than
500 species of animals, among which the koalas, the zoo’s latest
    acquisition, stand out. The Barcelona
Zoo is still among the best in Europe, despite the loss of
its most cherished symbol: “Copito de Nieve”, the only known
    white gorilla in the World.

In terms of aquariums, Spain boasts the largest one in Europe,
the spectacular L’Oceanografic located in the Ciudad de las
Artes y las Ciencias area of Valencia. It recently
celebrated the first birth of a gray shark in captivity. Every
    Saturday, the Finisterrae
Aquarium in A Corua, as part of its Escuela de Cientficos
(school of scientists) program, invites children between the
ages of 4 and 14 to do little research projects, which are
    accompanied by a delicious snack.

Another option available to children are the big nature parks
    such as Faunia, in
Madrid, Selwo, on the Costa del Sol or Valwo,
located 30 kilometers from Valladolid. The first of these,
with a surface area of 140,000 square meters, reproduces the
world’s major ecosystems, and also has an interesting nocturnal
room, where you can observe nocturnal species without being
seen. As for Selwo, it focuses a little bit more on adventure,
and has two sites: one in Estepona, Spain
dedicated to birds and land animals and the other in Benalmdena, which specializes in marine
animals. In an enclosure inhabited by over 500 animal species
from the seven continents, Valwo combines leisure activities
with environmental education. Along the same lines, but giving a
greater role to adventure, we find safaris, where animals are
not caged and for which a car is essential. At the Safari Park
in Aldea del Fresno, located an hour from Madrid,
you can travel among elephants, rhinoceros, hippopotamus,
    giraffes and many other species.

However, if you would like for your children to see animals in
their natural habitats, other possibilities include natural
parks. Cuenca Alta del Manzanares, in La Pedriza (Madrid),
organizes guided tours for children on weekends and holidays.
Accompanied by guides, children learn how to identify different
plant species, and discover the hiding places and habits of
squirrels, griffon vultures, roe deer and more.

Further north in Villaffila (Zamora), the Centro de
Interpretacin de la Naturaleza (Interpretive Center on Nature)
provides organized visits to observe the rich variety of bird
life present on the region’s lakes. Still further north, in
Asturias, a fun option is the Senda del Oso, (Bear Trail),
a pleasant route along an old railway line that stretches
between the towns of San Andrés and Teverga. While traveling, on
foot or on bicycle, one of the most beautiful regions of
Asturias, children can meet “Paca” and “Tola”, the two brown
bears that live in the area. Returning to the city, and in a
more scientific vein, museums can also be the perfect way for
children to have fun while they learn. A classic example is the
Museum of Natural Science in Madrid, which
periodically organizes activities to help the little ones keep
abreast of the latest scientific discoveries. And in Valencia,
the Science Museum Principe Felipe at the
Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias de
Valencia offers El cielo de estrella, an audiovisual display
in which children learn how to identify the major
    constellations.

The Atapuerca Archeological Park (Burgos) is a
great place to learn about the origins of human beings, and
suggests guided itineraries that recreate the fauna of the
Pleistocene period, huts from the Paleolithic period and
settlements of the Bronze Age. All to entertain and teach
children about prehistory. Not far from there, in the provinces
    of Soria and La Rioja,
there are a variety of routes that lead to archeological sites
containing the remains and footprints of dinosaurs.

How to Have a Great Family Vacation at Disney World

A vacation to Walt Disney World is one your whole family will remember forever. And it is an especially exiting trip for children. But if you’re in the dark about how to purchase an affordable Disney World vacation package, you may be a little intimidated by the cost. But there is a way to plan your travels so that you don’t overspend.

Here are some tips on planning your Disney World family vacation hassle-free.

The first thing to consider is hotel accommodations. Where do you want to stay during your vacation? There are expensive all-star resorts and more moderately priced hotels; whatever you prefer depends on your budget.

Maybe you want to stay at a hotel that offers breakfast with Disney characters. There are several helpful guidebooks that can fill you in on the best attractions and foods Disney World has to offer and they usually include information about the various expenses you’ll incur at different restaurants and which character meals are a favorite among Disney visitors.

Also, before setting off, buy inexpensive Disney themed merchandise. This way, you can give your kids a souvenir at the end of each day, rather than buying costly items inside the resort. You may also want to look into purchasing an “E-ticket,” which allows you three extra hours to spend in the park after the normal closing time - no long lines from the daytime, but the same fun!

Walt Disney World is an adventurous, vast place - roaming around the park can be exhausting. Adults may want to take an afternoon break at the hotel and the kids may need a nap or a relaxing swim. Baby care is also a major concern. Disney World is prepared for the needs of small children; the resort offers a wide variety of childcare and there are many places where a parent can change, nurse, and feed his or her baby (high chairs are even available). If young children will be traveling with you, a stroller is a must. You can bring one yourself or rent one at the park.

Other ways Disney World is a great vacation spot for parents and their children is for many rides, there are two lines: one for an adult flying solo and another for an adult holding a baby or small child. At the end of the ride, the person who waited in the second line hands the little one off to the person who waited in the first and thus, rides the attraction as well. This phenomenon is called the “Baby Swap.”

Disney World offers so many awesome opportunities - it is much more than a simple theme park. And a Disney parade is a must-see. Make sure to invest in at least one night pass so you can watch a parade. Find out the best place to see your favorite Disney Characters ahead of time and plop down in that location well before the parade begins. The MGM Studios courtyard is a primo spot!

Walt Disney World is truly an unforgettable place to vacation to, and not just for the kids. If you plan ahead, you may create a memory your whole family will cherish.

Cancun, Mexico - A Little Something For Everyone

A sleepy island area in the 1970s, Cancun has been transformed into a mega tourist destination. Located on the Caribbean side of Mexico, this resort area has something for everyone.

    Cancun

Make no mistake, Cancun is a very tourist friendly destination. Located on the Yucatan peninsula, Cancun is populated with mega resorts and over 20,000 hotel rooms. The economy is based on tourism and the people go out of their way to show tourists a good time.

Cancun proper is actually two distinct areas. Cancun City is located on the mainland and Cancun Island is just off the coast. The island is the stuff of legend.

Cancun Island the classic example of Caribbean beach paradise. Incredibly blue water laps slowly onto insanely white beaches. Light breezes roll in off the water as you lounge on a beach chair and contemplate important things like what you will eat for lunch.

One of the slight downsides of Cancun involves beachfront hotels. They tend to be a bit possessive about the sand in front of them. Put another way, you better be staying at the hotel if you intend to plop down in front of it. Hey, it can’t all be great!

    Getting To Cancun

As with any mega resort area, getting to Cancun is very easy. Most major airlines fly into Cancun City and the airport is very modern. You are required to have a passport and must fill out a tourist card at customs. The customs agents are easy going and I’ve never heard of anyone having any problems with them.

If you want to experience a beach vacation in Mexico, you can do worse than Cancun. You will not get much feel for the local culture, but you will definitely enjoy yourself.

Cancun - Not Just for Spring Break

For years, vacationers have been drawn to the beautiful scenery that Cancn has to offer. There is, after all, a reason why the Mexican government chose this coastal city to be its tourist flagship. Blue waters, white sands, and plenty of room for development meant that Cancn was the perfect place to draw in visitors.

    Image and Reality

Cancn’s popularity with American travelers - meaning English is widely spoken and popular chain stores and restaurants can be found there - and relatively low costs have helped it to become a haven for spring breakers, and has become better known as a party spot than the tropical escape that it was designed to be. Still, many vacationers looking for a resort location that is perfect for honeymoons or other peaceful getaways also consider Cancn.

How can honeymooners mix with the out-all-night lifestyle Cancn is becoming so well-known for? The simple answer is that Cancn has come to be the name used for the entire Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatn peninsula. The Yucatn peninsula contains the state of Quintana Roo, where Cancn resides. In fact, so do fascinating Mayan ruins and wide stretches of nearly untouched beaches. Cancn isn’t the only place travelers may choose to visit in the Mexican Caribbean.

    Plenty of Places to Go

Cozumel, an island off the coast of Mexico, is home to a small city and an airport. You’ll also find plenty of world-class snorkeling and diving on the world’s second largest reef. Mayans held this island as the sacred home of the fertility goddess Ixchel, and it now houses ruins for visitors to explore. Isla Mujeres is another popular island just miles away from Cancn in the Caribbean Sea; you’ll find the ruins of many Spanish galleons sunk just off its coast.

The ruins at Tulum are some of the most famous in Mexico. Here travelers can see a holy Mayan city and visit “The Castle.” This fortress is built on a bluff overlooking the ocean, offering spectacular sights for visitors willing to take the trip. Unlike the hustle and bustle of Cancn, this area is a haven for backpackers and ecologically-oriented travelers.

Those looking for something upscale and secluded, on the other hand, may want to consider the area known as the Mayan Riviera. It’s called by several variations of this name, such as the Riviera Maya, and stretches along the coast from Cancn to Tulum. Areas like Playa del Carmen are a part of this beautiful coastline. Rental villas with private slices of beach, rather than sprawling hotel and resort complexes, line the shores here. Some areas of the Mayan Riviera, such as Xel Ha and Akumal, are also known for their eco-tourism opportunities.

So while it’s easy to see why students may enjoy the wilder side in the city of Cancn, it’s not difficult to understand how travelers can find the perfect honeymoon escape and family travel in the area as well. Mexico’s Caribbean coast has much more to offer than just Cancn, though the city has become a figurehead for its tourism.
